The Cutting Edge, Part I
John LeMole offers a new twist on the old themes of dodger design. He calls it the drop-top dodger, a dodger for any sailboat and some powerboats that's composed of a semi-permanent windshield with a removable top.
The Cutting Edge, Part II
In Part I, LeMole introduced the drop-top dodger design. In this installment, he reveals, step by step, how to build the dodger.
The Folding Strut
In the previous two articles, LeMole introduced marine fabricators to the drop-top dodger, a new design utilizing the Gemini System and featuring a permanent windshield with a removable top. Here, he broadens the discussion into the use of folding struts in collapsible frames for both dodgers and biminis. The frame basics are the same for both, whether in two- three- or four-frame construction.
Assembly and Installation Instructions for Gemini System Folding Struts
Gemini System folding struts can be added to any bimini or convertible top with no modification of the existing frame. These instructions will guide you through a retrofit installation of struts on a bimini that is currently tensioned with straps.
